Planning application with more than 200 stores, along with restaurants and a hotel, to be submitted in spring.
Brent Cross is to undergo a £1.4bn modernisation plan that will double the size of the existing north London shopping centre, in a bid to rival the newer Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City shopping centres to the west and east of the capital respectively.
The centre, which opened 40 years ago in 1976, will be revitalised into a new “urban quarter”. Its owners, Hammerson and Standard Life, are opening a public consultation to ensure it meets the needs of shoppers in the future, which will form part of the planning application to be submitted in spring 2017.
The planning application includes more than 200 stores, 40 new restaurants, a cinema complex and hotel accommodation, as well as a new town square and expanded bus station. John Lewis and Fenwick will continue to anchor the site, and there will be a new Marks & Spencer anchor store. There will also be space for pop-up and concept stores, and a food market area.
