Diwali festival was marked by Brentford and Isleworth Conservative Association at Indian Gymkhana on Saturday, 3rd November. Speeches, Dances, Food and DJ have entertained the attendees for the entire evening. Former Minister Ed Vaizey, London Mayoral Candidate Shaun Bailey, Vice President of Conservative Party for Communities Rehman Chishti and many other Conservative members and Councillors were present on the occasion. Speeches by the Guests of Honour were astounding.
The cultural programme showcased classical, folk and tribal dances of India in their pristine form and culminated in ever popular Bollywood moves. Koli dance of Maharashtra, Sambalpuri dance of Odisha and Lambadi dance of Telangana were colourfully portrayed in their rich and original costumes. Performers included Kriti, Tvisha, Adhokshaja, Anitha Tammisetty, Shreya Manas from Sanskruti Centre, Sinjini Chakraborty, Rashmi Lakhapate, Varsha Kulkarni, Reena Meher, Reena Khuntia, Pragnya Arihan from Sur Bharti Women’s Collective and Ankitha, Amruta and Atul from Sumeet Step2Step dance.
It was interesting to see politicians and people in key offices blending into the celebratory mood and joining in dancing and singing. Nirmala Madadi spoke on the importance of Diwali, Swathi Reddy presented few engaging songs, Ragasudha Vinjamuri hosted the cultural section and Cllr Ranjit Singh Gill has spearheaded the event organisation. The objective of the event was to mark the festival of lights and celebrate the cultural diversity, while also focusing on the interests and objectives of the group.
